We owned our Bemis seat with its "superior high-gloss finish" that "resists chipping and scratching" (taken from their website) for about a year and a half before the paint started wearing through to the "durable molded wood" underneath.
We're a family of four, and we use our toilet pretty normally. We don't sit there wiggling around, rubbing our butts back and forth, abrading the paint (which, if it were actually superior, would be able to withstand such antics anyway, I would think). And none of us is overweight, so there is a normal amount of pressure on and flesh contact with the seat. It's simply as cheaply made as the price would indicate.

Crazy to write a review for a toilet seat but I am impressed. After taking almost 20 minutes to remove my old toilet seat I was dreading the installation of the new one. When I read the 3 step instructions for this one I was thrilled. It took all of 2 minutes! For those who are mechanically challenged, I highly recommend this one!

This is a solid, easy to install, perfectly fitting seat for my 1986 American Standard Plebe toilet. One observation is that the seat "outgassed" a strong paint/resin odor for several days. On the first day, this resulted in quite a headache. After four days of airing out the room, it started to weaken. A note on installation: very easy to install-- make sure you more than hand tighten the bolts for a sturdy fit.
